Tax Season Is On The Way!

There are few people alive today in America who have not lived under the oppressive tax system we call the Federal Income Tax. The Federal Income Tax came into being during the first part of the 20^th century with the passage of the 16^th amendment. The amendment was first proposed during the Taft administration, (1-16-1909), in response to the public concerns over too few people having the wealth of the nation consolidated in their hands. The amendment was finally ratified by the required ¾ of the states on January 25, 1913 and thus the Internal Revenue Service came back into existence. Back into existence, you say? Yes, the IRS actually came into being during the Civil War during the Lincoln Administration, but that is another story.

The 16^th Amendment

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration..........
